UNC-TV MOBILE UNIT

The University of North Carolina Center for Public Television (UNC‐TV) contracted Beck Associates to design, engineer and build their new Mobile Unit. Beck Associates was engaged as a turnkey supplier committed to a design process which included value engineering and strong project management necessary to achieve success within budget and delivery by the agreed upon date.

UNC‐TV is a part of the University of North Carolina System. It is supported by private contributions, federal and State of North Carolina funding. UNC‐TV has spent much of this decade upgrading transmission and production facilities to support HDTV capability. Currently, UNC‐TV produces all of its local and national programs in 1080i 59.94 HDTV. The final part of the upgrade included a new, high definition mobile unit. While it was UNC‐TV’s desire to allow creative solutions in all aspects of the mobile unit design, some subsystems were best optimized by choosing equipment that matched existing studio equipment. The completed system provides a complete practical stand‐alone mobile production facility intended for both live and recorded programs.
